Fantasy Analysis
Michael Grabner scored 34 goals last season so 20 is certainly a disappointment. Grabner still has great speed, but his inability to finish breakaways was a big part of the reason for the difference in goals from one season to the next. (Updated 04/07/2012).
03/27/2012 21:45 Isles snap Penguins' home win streak
Frans Nielsen scored twice and the New York Islanders won in Pittsburgh for the first time in more than four years with a 5-2 victory over the Penguins on Tuesday night.
03/25/2012 21:04 Isles' Nielsen wins it with lone SO goal
Frans Nielsen scored the only goal in the shootout and the New York Islanders beat the Florida Panthers 3-2 on Sunday night.
03/15/2012 21:45 Bryzgalov sets shutout record for Flyers
Ilya Bryzgalov made 29 saves, coming within 6:30 of a fourth straight shutout, and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Thursday for their seventh win in eight games.
Grabner was one of the most pleasant surprises of the 2010-11 season. After being released by the Panthers in training camp, Islanders GM Garth Snow made another shrewd waiver claim and grabbed Grabner. All Grabner did was pot 34 goals and add 18 assists on the way to becoming a finalist for the Calder Trophy. Possessing unmatched quickness, Grabner's as good as gone when he has a step on a defender. The one problem is that he only scored two power-play goals last year, though he did have six shorthanded. The Islanders are acquiring more and more offensive talent, but Grabner will still be a key component to any success the team may have this coming season. (Updated 10/4/11)
