| Fantasy Analysis |
Pavelski is gearing up for his stint with Team USA in the Olympics and his recent surge is helping Fantasy owners big time. Pavelski has produced 35 points in 44 games. That's pretty solid production, but he often goes overlooked since he is still behind Joe Thornton on the depth chart. Pavelski is a decent No. 4 or No. 5 Fantasy forward. (Updated 02/08/2010).

| If someone asked you which Sharks player recorded a team-high 266 shots in 2008-09, your first instinct might be Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton, Ryane Clowe or Devin Setoguchi. But if you said any of those players, you would be wrong. It was Wisconsin native Joe Pavelski that led San Jose and finished 18th in the NHL in shots. And as good as he was letting the puck rip, Pavelski was as equally good stopping them. He blocked 74 shots, which ranked him sixth in the NHL among forwards. Pavelski was also great in the faceoff circle, winning 56.3 percent of the time (eighth in NHL), and totaled four short-handed points (tying him for fourth). The third-year forward continued his offensive development, as he set career highs in goals (25), assists (34) and points (59). Pavelski was arguably San Jose's most gifted two-way forward last season. Not bad for a kid that was taken in the seventh round (205th) in the 2003 NHL draft. Consider Pavelski a decent No. 5 or No. 6 Fantasy forward Draft Day. He is also worth a flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed and faceoff stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
