Fantasy Analysis
After suffering a shoulder injury March 3 against Pittsburgh, it was widely believed that the ailment continued to bother Steve Downie over the last month of the season, even though he only missed one game. The exact timetable of his rehab remains unclear, but it's expected he will be ready to return by the start of training camp. Downie was certainly a factor for the Avs after he was obtained from Tampa Bay via trade in February, scoring 28 points in 55 games A healthy Downie should be even more productive next season - don't forget about him on draft day. 03/10/2012 10:30 Pregame Skate: Avs with great shot at two points, Caps much tougher
This logjam in the West is pretty amazing right now. The Colorado Avalanche in 11th place are two points behind seventh-place Phoenix. They might have the lowest odds of the bunch thanks to having played more games -- Saturday they become the first team this season to play 70 games -- but they're still in it.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 35 shots, Steve Sullivan had a goal and an assist and the streaking Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 on Saturday night.
Downie is a rare bird. He's one of the few fists-first, talk-later guys who has the speed and skill to play on the second line. He's already come close to a 50-point, 200+ PIM season (he was just four points shy in 2009-10) and we think he'll get there in the next few years ... maybe even this one. It'll all hinge on how the Bolts use him, Ryan Malone and Ryan Shannon -- only two of those three can round out the left side on the top two lines. We still think Shannon is the odd-man out but that could change quickly if he demonstrates any chemistry with Vinny Lecavalier. But that aside, Downie is a multi-category all-star and should be drafted as such. (Updated 10/4/11)
