| Fantasy Analysis |
Hejda has two poonts in his first three January games, but it's not time to get excited. He is still not logging power-play minutes and most of his points come at even strength. He does his best work on defense. Hejda is a low-end Fantasy defenseman and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for plus-minus rating and short-handed stats. (Updated 01/08/2010).

Five for Fantasy: Why is Mason slumping?
Steve Mason came out of nowhere last season to win the Calder Trophy, but something is missing for him in Columbus this season. Our Michael Hurcomb touches on that and more in his latest edition of Five for Fantasy.

| After playing many years in Russia and the Czech Republic, Jan Hejda finally made his way to the NHL in 2006-07 with the Oilers. He would spend one lackluster season with Edmonton before jumping ship to Columbus in 2007-08. Finally with a chance to showcase his skills, Hejda set a team record with a plus-20 rating. The team was eager to see what he would do for an encore in 2008-09. Hejda didn't disappoint. He topped his own record with a plus-23 mark in 82 games. He also had career highs in goals (3), assists (18) and points (21). Hejda was a top penalty killer for Columbus, while racking up 168 hits and 157 blocked shots. The 6-3, 218-pound defenseman knows his way around the ice as he enters his fourth NHL season in 2009-10. Since he isn't an elite offensive player, Hejda has very low-end Fantasy appeal in most formats. He is also a viable flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
