Fantasy Analysis
Despite the lack of production, Jan Hejda continues to enjoy a top-four role on the Avs' blue line this season, currently teaming with Ryan Wilson on the team's second defensive pairing. Lucky for him, he is not expected to score much, but he is expected to provide a steady defensive presence, something that his team-worst minus-13 rating suggests he's having trouble doing overall. If you're relying on him for fantasy purposes, you could probably do better considering his shortcomings at both ends of the rink. (Updated 03/03/2012).
12/30/2011 00:02 Avalanche 3, Coyotes 2
Semyon Varlamov made 25 saves, Gabriel Landeskog had a goal and an assist, and the Colorado Avalanche beat the Phoenix Coyotes 3-2 on Thursday night.
12/26/2011 20:55 Avs snap nine-game road losing streak
Jan Hejda scored the go-ahead goal at 10:20 of the third period and the Colorado Avalanche snapped a nine-game road losing skid, beating the Minnesota Wild 4-2 on Monday night.
The Avalanche signed Hejda to a four-year, $13 million contract in July, a sensible acquisition for a team that allowed the most goals (288) in the NHL last season. The former Blue Jacket is better at shutting down opponents than he is creating offense on his own, so keep that in mind for fantasy purposes. If there's room for a 15-20 point defenseman on your roster who will struggle to post a positive plus-minus rating this year, then by all means draft away. (Updated 10/4/11)
