| Fantasy Analysis |
McLeod has a disappointing 12 points and a minus-6 for the contending Avs this season afetr flashing some potential with a 15-goal campaign in 2008-09. Of course, McLeod is really on the ice to throw his weight around (see 103 penalty minutes), so remains just a low-end option in deeper Fantasy leagues that reward bed behavior. (Updated 02/01/2010).

| The Avalanche had no intentions of letting Cody McLeod after his breakout 2008-09 season. McLeod was arguably the Avalanche's top energy player and they kept the restricted free agent with a three-year contract. In his second NHL season, McLeod totaled a career-high 15 goals -- all at even strength. Tyler Kennedy and Andrew Ladd were the only NHL players to score at least 15 goals without a power-play or short-handed tally. McLeod shared the team lead with three game-winning goals and had a pair of multi-goal games -- both in December. He led the Avalanche in hits (194) and finished second in penalty minutes (162). He just the second player in Avalanche history to reach 15 goals and 150 PIM in a single season (Chris Simon, 1995-96) and one of four NHLers to accomplish the feat last season, joining David Backes, Alexandre Burrows and David Clarkson. While McLeod might be a timely scorer, he is still best left for Fantasy leagues that reward heavily for PIM. (Updated 8/17/09) |
