Girardi has three January points: Rangers D Daniel Girardi tallied an assist and finished at even during Monday's game against the Penguins. He has one goal and two assists in 13 January games.

The only good news for Girardi is that he is at plus-1 in January after being minus-11 through the first three months. For the second straight season, Girardi got off to a fast start in October before fading quickly offensively. Girardi logs a lot of playing time, but he is just an unreliable Fantasy option.

| From a Fantasy standpoint, we didn't see a lot of progress from Rangers defenseman Daniel Girardi in 2008-09. His goals production dropped from 10 in 2007-08 to 4. He stayed level at 18 assists from season-to-season. And after finishing at plus-7 in his first two NHL campaigns, Girardi was an ugly minus-14 last year. But looking at some of the positives for the Rangers, Girardi hasn't missed a game in two seasons and was third on the team in '08-09 with 207 hits. He was also fifth with 82 blocked shots. While his offensive progression hit the skids, Girardi definitely showed some more defensive umph. Girardi has shown to be a better puck mover than scorer, but maybe we will see a breakout season from the 25-year-old blueliner as he enters a walk year in 2009-10. Girardi is best used in Fantasy leagues that reward for short-handed stats, but he does have low-end Fantasy appeal in deeper standard formats Draft Day. (Updated 8/18/09) |
