Kane finished Friday with two assists and now has 12 points on the season for the Blackhawks. Kane has at least one point in four of his last five games. He has four goals and eight assists on the year for the Blackhawks and remains a solid Fantasy option for use in all leagues. (Updated 10/31/2009).

| Hockey enthusiasts were eagerly awaiting Patrick Kane's encore in 2008-09 after the former No. 1 pick (2007) took home NHL Rookie of the Year honors in 2007-08. Unfortunately, he fell a bit short of expectations. Kane was on cruise control before an ankle injury in late December sidetracked him. The second-year forward posted 41 points (16 goals) in his first 34 games before his production took a nose dive. He showed his toughness by playing through the injury, but it clearly bothered him. Kane finished the regular season with just 29 points in his final 46 games. He finished with a career-high 25 goals and 13 power-play scores. His 70 points ranked second among Chicago skaters and 50 percent of his points came on the power play -- which tied him for 11th in the NHL. But there is a bit of good news for Fantasy owners. Kane made a strong push in the playoffs with nine goals and 14 points in 16 games as the Blackhawks made it all the way to the Western Conference finals. An offseason of rest should help him get back to full strength for the 2009-10 season. Kane should be drafted as no worse than a No. 3 Fantasy forward. He also has extra motivation heading into the final year of his entry-level contract. (Updated 8/17/09) |
