Quick falls short of Kings record: Kings G Jonathan Quick made 29 saves during a 4-2 loss to the Ducks on Monday. Quick jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first period before Anaheim scored three unanswered goals, twice on the power play. Los Angeles cut the lead to 1 before Corey Perry scored at 18:30 of the second just 24 seconds after the Kings' second goal. Quick made seven saves in the third period, but it was too late. The NHL's wins leader (34) remained one victory shy of tying Mario Lessard for the 29-year-old franchise record. Quick had won nine straight before Monday's loss. Oh well. It had to end sometime. Quick has won 13 of 17 appearances since January. Quick and the Kings TG have become must-start options. (Updated 02/09/2010).

Waiver Wire: Jussi what we see?
Jussi Jokinen is quietly putting together a nice stretch, but it hasn't been enough to get him added to the Finnish Olympic team. As Michael Hurcomb writes, it shouldn't stop owners from scooping him up.

| The stars aligned for Kings goalie Jonathan Quick in 2008-09. First, Jason LaBarbera couldn't handle the starting responsibilities and was eventually shipped out of town. Then, his replacement Erik Ersberg went down with a nagging groin injury. Finally, Los Angeles wasn't ready to promote prospect Jonathan Bernier from the minors, so Quick got his chance in net and didn't disappoint. The 2005 third-round pick ranked third among NHL rookie goaltenders with 21 wins, 2.48 goals-against average, .914 save percentage, four shutouts, 44 appearances and 1,097 saves. His 21 wins were the third most by a Kings rookie goalie, and the last time a Kings netminder had four shutouts in a season was Mathieu Garon in 2005-06. Quick started the last 22 of 27 games for the Kings and 41 of 52 after his recall from Manchester of the AHL in mid-December. One of Quick's best runs was late in the season from March 22-April 9. He posted a 1.76 GAA and .942 save percentage in nine appearances. He also had a 0.80 GAA, .970 save percentage and two shutouts during a five-game span Dec. 23-Jan. 3. Quick appears to be the frontrunner for the starting goalie job heading into the 2009-10 season, but Ersberg and Bernier will be nipping at his heels. Quick is more of a low-end No. 2/high-end No. 3 Fantasy goalie Draft Day. The Kings TG is at best a No. 2 option. (Updated 8/20/09) |
