Kings' Quick A Game-Time Decision Saturday
Quick is a game-time decision for Saturday's contest against the Ducks, NHL.com reports.Quick did not practice Friday or Saturday, and the Kings are still unsure whether he'd be able to serve as a backup in the event that Martin Jones get the nod. Jones should be considered the favorite to start Saturday, as Quick may be able to serve as a backup while ill, but he probably won't start over Jones unless he's close to 100 percent.
Kings' Quick Feeling Ill
Quick (illness) missed Friday's practice, Elliott Teaford of InsideSocal.com reports. The illness puts Quick's availability in question for Saturday's game vs. the Ducks. If Quick's condition does not improve overnight, coach Darryl Sutter could turn to backup Martin Jones for the start.
Quick, Kings Blow Lead In Loss To Leafs
Quick was staked to a 2-0 lead in the first period Thursday against Toronto, but the Kings' offense was then silenced while Quick ended up allowing three goals on 29 shots to take the loss. The Kings could do nothing against Toronto backup goalie James Reimer after he came on in relief; meanwhile, Quick allowed a one-per-period trickle of goals, capped by Mason Raymond's shorthanded tally in the third. Tough one for Quick, who saw his six-game winning streak come to an end.
|Jonathan Quick had an impossible act to follow after coming off a Stanley Cup and Conn Symthe season in 2011-12 and then signing that monster, 10-year contract extension. His numbers (18 wins, 2.45 GAA, .902 save percentage) were still decent and he tried to carry the Kings once again with some brilliant netminding in the postseason. The Kings hope that the form he flashed in the playoffs are a better indication of the next decade than the uneven play he showed at times in the regular season, particularly after dealing backup Jonathan Bernier to the Leafs in the offseason. We have every confidence he'll rebound. (Updated 8/12/13) |
