Hensick clears waivers, in minors: The Avalanche sent defenseman T.J. Hensick to Lake Erie of the AHL on Friday. He was placed on waivers Wednesday.

It's very surprising no one claimed Hensick off waiver since he is a promising prospect. Unfortunately, Hensick just wasn't seeing regular minutes with the Avs. He had one goal and three points in seven games. Hensick is likely due back at some point, but he still is nothing more than a long-term Fantasy keeper.

Oilers jump out early, hand Avalanche first home loss
Ryan Potulny and Dustin Penner scored two of Edmonton's four power-play goals and also had assists, and the Oilers handed the Colorado Avalanche their first home loss of the season, 5-3 on Sunday night.

| T.J. Hensick had to open the 2008-09 season with Lake Erie of the AHL because the Avalanche were under a numbers crunch at center. However, once Hensick opened the season with 13 points (six goals) in 10 games for the Monsters, Colorado had no choice but to summon for the Lansing, Michigan native. Unfortunately, Hensick didn't have the same offensive impact for the Avs. He appeared in 61 games, but primarily played as a lower-line forward and totaled just 21 points (four goals). The former Michigan standout has mastered the minor league game and just needs to find his footing in the NHL. It could help him in 2009-10 that his former AHL coach (Joe Sacco) is now behind the Colorado bench. Hensick is merely a low-end Fantasy flier and potential sleeper for the deepest of formats.
