Report: Thomas on trade market: The Toronto Sun reports that the Bruins might consider trading reigning Vezina Trophy winner Tim Thomas. Two league executives recently told the Sun that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli had held talks with teams looking for goaltending help. Tuukka Rask made a third straight start on Sunday against Montreal and posted a 3-0 shutout. (Updated 02/08/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
It's hard to believe Boston is already willing to part with Thomas after he won the top goalie honors in 2008-09 and signed a four-year extension last season. But Rask has been outplaying Thomas for most of the 2009-10 campaign and Boston might be ready to look toward the future. Thomas is 35 years old, but the trouble is that he has a no-trade clause and would have to waive it. Two possible destinations for Thomas could be Chicago and Dallas. It will be interesting to see if Thomas is moved before the March 3 deadline. Perhaps Fantasy owners might want to stash Rask in deeper formats just in case he becomes a full-time starter. | Bruins fans and hockey analysts have been clamoring for goalie Tuukka Rask to receive a permanent call to the show. They are finally getting their wish in 2009-10. After the Bruins elected not to bring back Manny Fernandez, they opted to go ahead with promoting Rask to backup duties behind Tim Thomas. Although Rask will not be a full-time player, there is the opportunity for him to gain valuable NHL experience and plenty of playing time since coach Claude Julien does like to rest Thomas at times. Rask has climbed his way up the Bruins' prospect chart after being acquired in a June 2006 trade with Toronto. Rask, a 2005 first-round pick, has spent the majority of the last two seasons with Providence of the AHL. He has briefly appeared in the NHL, posting a 3-1-1 record with a 2.46 goals-against-average and .919 save percentage. Rask had another solid season with Providence in 2008-09. He went 33-20-4 with a 2.50 GAA, .915 save percentage and four shutouts in 57 games. Rask is a butterfly goalie that is very controlled in net. He is also swift to get back on his feet when needed. Rask is worth owning as a No. 3 Fantasy goalie or handcuff option for Thomas owners. He also remains a solid long-term Fantasy keeper. (Updated 8/23/09) |
