Fantasy Analysis
It's hard to recommend a guy when he's watching from the press box every night. The Avs have eight healthy defensemen on the roster at the moment, and unfortunately for Matt Hunwick, he's low man on the totem pole. He shouldn't be on anyone's roster right now. (Updated 01/27/2012).
01/25/2011 01:14 Smyth, Loktionov score as Kings blank Bruins
Ryan Smyth scored the Kings' first power-play goal in eight games and Andrei Loktionov added a goal, helping Los Angeles beat Boston 2-0 on Monday night for its fifth straight victory over the Bruins.
Hunwick, who re-signed a one-year deal with the Avalanche in June, had a mediocre first season in Colorado last year, recording just 10 assists in 51 games along with a minus-19 rating. The Avs are clearly intent on allowing Hunwick to prove himself, considering they gave up a prized prospect (defenseman Colby Cohen) to get him from the Bruins. Furthermore, with the departure of John-Michael Liles, there may be an opportunity for Hunwick to play a larger role on the Avs' blue line this season. In short, he could wind up being one of the team's top four blueliners, but he's really going to have to work on his play in his own zone to earn that role. (Updated 8/16/11)
