Gagne not worried about goal slump: The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that Flyers LW Sam Gagne isn't too worried about the fact he only has one goal in his last 16 games. "It's not the first time I'm going through something like this," Gagne said, "I just have to keep shooting and keep going to the net," he said. "Maybe get a dirty goal or a lucky goal and that will get the confidence going." (Updated 02/04/2010).

| Although Steve Sullivan won the Masterson Trophy, given to the NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication, following the 2008-09 season, you couldn't say that Flyers forward Simon Gagne wasn't a strong candidate for the honor. After a severe concussion threatened his career in 2007-08, Gagne went through rigorous offseason conditioning to get back in shape for the '08-09 season. We were all eager to see if Gagne lost a step, but the 29-year-old forward looked as sharp as ever. Gagne posted 13 goals, 31 points and a plus-15 rating in his first 22 games. He would finish the season with 34 goals, 74 points and a plus-21 rating in 79 games. And the best part was that he had no relapses from the concussion. The 74 points were the second-highest total of Gagne's career. He had 30-plus goals for the fourth time in his career and achieved 40 assists for the first time. He was also at plus-20 or better a sixth time and finished with 12 or more power-plays for the third time in four seasons. Gagne quickly shot back up the Fantasy rankings and remains a must-own Fantasy forward heading into 2009-10. (Updated 8/18/09) |
