Fantasy Analysis
His night was ruined from a statistical standpoint by Martin Erat's goal with 10 seconds remaining, but it wasn't enough to bring the Preds back. Alex Auld has started just seven games this year and hasn't put up much in the way of stats, so his fantasy value is quite marginal. (Updated 02/09/2012).
02/09/2012 22:48 Senators end seven-game losing streak
Chris Phillips scored his first two goals of the season in his 1,000th NHL game, Jason Spezza also scored twice and the Ottawa Senators ended a seven-game losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Nashville Predators on Thursday.
02/07/2012 22:32 Blues deal Senators seventh loss in row
David Perron scored twice and Brian Elliott made 28 saves in his regular-season return to Ottawa and the St. Louis Blues handed the Senators their seventh straight loss, 3-1 Tuesday night.
Auld will serve as Craig Anderson's backup for the 2011-12 season and should see upwards of 20 games of action. With Ottawa's rebuild in full effect, the veteran netminder will have a tough time matching the numbers he put up as Carey Price's backup in Montreal the previous season. Another thing to note is that Ottawa's management has made it clear that should Anderson go down with an injury, they're more than prepared to bring up highly touted goaltending prospect Robin Lehner from Binghamton to serve as the No. 1, with Auld remaining as the backup. The fantasy numbers simply won't be there this season. (Updated 10/4/11)
