Commodore makes trip to IR: The Blue Jackets placed D Mike Commodore (hip) on injured reserve Friday. (Updated 02/07/2010).
| Injury Report |
Hip - IR. Out until at least mid-February (Updated - 2/7/10)
| Fantasy Analysis |
Commodore could return in Week 19 (Feb. 8-14), but it's probably safe to keep him reserved. Commodore has had a tough season in 2009-10, mostly due to poor conditioning. When he returns, a new coach will be behind the bench (Claude Noel). Maybe he will finally get the most out of the veteran blueliner. Still, Commodore has low-end Fantasy appeal until further notice. Five for Fantasy: Why is Mason slumping?
Steve Mason came out of nowhere last season to win the Calder Trophy, but something is missing for him in Columbus this season. Our Michael Hurcomb touches on that and more in his latest edition of Five for Fantasy.
| Mike Commodore found his way to Columbus in 2008 after signing a five-year contract. He finally found a home after splitting the 2007-08 season between Carolina and Ottawa. As Columbus' highest-paid blue liner, Commodore played in all facets of the game, which included logging more than 300 minutes of short-handed time. He also wasn't afraid to sacrifice his body for the betterment of the team, as Commodore recorded 201 hits and 162 blocked shots (tied for 14th in the NHL). In the end, Commodore had his most productive season since totaling a career-high 29 points in 2006-07 with Carolina. He had five goals, 19 assists and a plus-11 rating in 81 games. He also totaled 100 penalty minutes for the fourth straight season. Commodore really shined during wins. He totaled four goals, 20 points and a plus-31 rating in 40 Blue Jackets' victories. The North Dakota product should once again be among Columbus' top four defensemen in 2009-10, but still has low-end Fantasy appeal. He is also a flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
