Connolly nets two points vs. Sens: Sabres C Tim Connolly scored a goal, tallied an assist and finished at plus-1 on Wednesday against the Senators. Connolly tied the game at 2 at 7:44 when his 40-footer beat Brian Elliott high on the glove side. It was his 14th goal and first score in five games.

Connolly had a 16-game point streak end on Jan. 27, but he hasn't allowed that to slow him down. He has since started a three-game point streak and continues to be one of the NHL's hottest players since late December. Connolly has really had a fire lit under him since he was snubbed for the USA Olympic team. Start him in all Fantasy formats.

Daniel Alfredsson scored twice in the final minute -- including an empty-netter -- to extend the Ottawa Senators' franchise-best winning streak to 10 with a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

| There’s no question that Connolly is a point-per-game talent in the Fantasy world, but he has played just 48 games in each of the last two seasons after being limited to two games in 2006-07 because of a concussion. Recently, it’s been abdominal, groin, hip, back and rib injuries that have kept Connolly off the ice, but he should be healthy heading into 2009-10. He’s obviously a massively risky pick in all leagues because of his injury problems, but the risk could end up being worth it if Connolly plays to his full potential. Consider him a nice mid- to late-round pick in all formats as a super Fantasy sleeper forward. (Updated 8/18/09) |
