Zetterberg scores in regulation, SH: Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg scored in the shootout to lift Detroit to a 2-1 win over San Jose, snapping the Sharks' six-game winning streak. Zetterberg also had a goal in regulation. Even though Detroit trailed 1-0 late in the second period and early in the third, captain Nicklas Lidstrom said the Red Wings remained calm. They were rewarded when Zetterberg tied it 1-1 at 5:38 of the third period. He poked a puck in from under Evgeni Nabokov's pad for his fourth goal and third in four games.

While the goal scoring has just started for Zetterberg, he does have 13 points in 14 games. The Red Wings need their Swedish superstar more than ever after losing key free agents and a few top players to injury. Zetterberg is a great two-way forward and solid Fantasy option.

| The arrival of Marian Hossa in 2008-09 had a profound impact on fellow Detroit forward Henrik Zetterberg. The Swedish forward and 2007-08 playoff MVP, when Detroit won the Stanley Cup, would no longer be on a line with Pavel Datsyuk full-time. It didn't seem much of an issue in the beginning as Zetterberg totaled seven goals and 10 points in the first nine games. Unfortunately, he would score just 10 times over the next 36 games and saw many of his scoring chances go to Hossa. But as a true team player, Zetterberg didn't complain and helped Detroit in other ways. He picked up the effort on the defensive end and continued to find the open scorer. Zetterberg finished with his third 30-goal, 40-assist campaign in the last four seasons, but his scoring did drop from when he recorded a career-high 43 goals and 92 points in '07-08. Zetterberg finished with 31 goals, 42 assists and a plus-13 rating in 77 games. Still not bad numbers, but we know Zetterberg has the talent to do better. Hossa is now with the Blackhawks, so the scoring chances will once again be there for Zetterberg. He still remains and elite Fantasy forward in all formats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
