The goal was Mike Ribeiro's first of the series as he cleaned up a mess in front stemming from a deflected shot to give Washington the win in the always-pivotal Game 5. The Caps would like Ribeiro to play a bit more consistently, but the series has hardly been a showcase for the teams' skill players. Ribeiro had one assist over four games before Friday. Henrik Lundqvist stopped 27 shots in earning his seventh NHL playoff shutout, and Derick Brassard scored a second-period goal for the New York Rangers, who stayed alive with a 1-0 victory over the Washington Capitals on Sunday that forced a Game 7 in the first-round series.
One of the league's more underrated playmakers, Ribiero joins the Caps after several productive seasons with Dallas. Ribiero is coming off consecutive 71 and 63-point seasons with the Stars and is expected to give Washington another center with the capability of potting more than 15 goals. Look for Ribiero to see power-play time with the team's top unit and challenge 60-65 points once more. He can be a good value provided you don't pay too much for him. (Updated 8/14/12)
