Raycroft records 100th career loss: Canucks G Andrew Raycroft made 18 saves in his first start in two months during a 3-1 loss to the Senators on Thursday. Raycroft, who recorded his 100th career loss, trailed 2-0 after one period. He didn't allow a goal the rest of the way as he made nine saves, but Ottawa iced the game with an empty-net score. | Fantasy Analysis |
Raycroft had made two relief appearances -- including his 99th career win in the Canucks' 5-3 come-from-behind win in Toronto on Saturday night -- since allowing four goals in a 5-3 loss at Carolina on Dec. 5. He got the start on Thursday because Roberto Luongo really needed a night off. Luonogo is not injured or sick. Raycroft has generally done well when he has been called on in 2009-10, but he hasn't played much since Luongo starts most nights. Raycroft continues to have minimal Fantasy appeal, while the Canucks TG is a high-end option because of Luongo. (Updated 02/04/2010).

| It's been sad to see how far goalie Andrew Raycroft has fallen in his professional career. Once a promising prospect with the Bruins and a 37-game winner in 2006-07 with the Maple Leafs, Raycroft is now pulling backup duty in the NHL. He spent the 2008-09 season with Colorado, his only year with the Avalanche. Raycroft began the season as a backup to Peter Budaj but eventually won the starting job after going 9-1-0 in his first 10 games. He became just the second goalie in franchise history to open a season by winning nine of his first 10 decisions (Stephane Fiset was 10-1-0 in 1994-95 for Quebec). He posted a seven-game winning streak in that span and had a 2.11 GAA and .928 save percentage as well. Unfortunately, it quickly unraveled for Raycroft. He lost his next six outings and finished the season losing his last nine decisions. Raycroft was 12-16-0 with a 3.14 GAA and .892 save percentage on the season. Luckily for Raycroft, the Canucks signed him to a one-year contract in the offseason to backup Roberto Luongo, giving the 29-year-old goalie another chance to prove himself in the NHL. Raycroft won't see much time as long as Luongo is healthy, so consider him more of a handcuff option for Luongo owners. (Updated 8/17/09) |
