Bailey ends up on IR: The Islanders have placed C Josh Bailey (upper body) on injured reserve. (Updated 02/08/2010).

| Injury Report |
Upper body - IR. Out until at least early March (Updated - 2/8/10)
|
| Fantasy Analysis |
After a nice little run in early January, Bailey had cooled down considerably lately with just three points in his last nine games before this injury popped up. Bailey's value really lies more as a long-term keeper option than a seasonal one, so don't worry too much about his expected return. (Updated 02/08/2010).

| While Josh Bailey was a top 10 pick in 2008 and being talked about as a player that had a bright future in the NHL, many analysts still figured that was way down the road and had the ninth overall selection headed back to junior hockey. It especially made sense after Bailey began the season on injured reserve with a lower-body injury. However in a shocking move, the Islanders opted to keep Bailey around in 2008-09 and begin his learning curve earlier than expected. Bailey definitely endured his struggles, including in the faceoff circle where he won just 41.1 percent of the time (332 for 807). But New York was pleased with his work ethic and feel he will be better prepared heading into Year 2. Bailey finished tied for 14th among NHL rookies with 18 assists, as well as tied for 21st in points (25), tied for seventh in power-play assists (8) and tied for 10th in power-play points (11). He finished the season on a strong note with nine points (five goals) in his last 20 games. The addition of No. 1 overall pick John Tavares definitely overshadows Bailey's progress, but he is expected to figure heavily into the Islanders' plans. Bailey is a developing offensive player, so consider him more of a low-end Fantasy option on Draft Day. (Updated 8/18/09) |
