Butler, Myers catching on quickly: The Sports Xchange reports Chris Butler noticed the effectiveness of the forwards covering the point. Tyler Myers instantly recognized the speed the opponents possess. As the Sabres' newest power-play point men, it's good that they're catching on quick. Butler, a second-year pro, and Myers, a 19-year-old rookie, are patrolling the blue line when the Sabres get the man advantage. Butler played the spot at the University of Denver, while Myers was a power-play focal point in juniors with Kelowna of the Western Hockey League. But it's their first shot in the NHL. "I'm very fortunate that they're giving me that opportunity," Myers said. "Obviously, I want to do well with it." (Updated 10/11/2009).

The results, as expected, have been mixed. The Sabres are 2-for-18 on the power play and had an 0-for-12 drought. But they also have one game-winning goal to their credit. They figure they'll get more once Butler and Myers get acclimated to their role at hockey's highest level. "I've gotten more comfortable even in the last couple games," Butler said. "It translates into practice, where you're more comfortable, then you're trying to make plays instead of trying to make that safe play. I think that's something I'm going to try to do is make more plays back there ... and make sure I'm trying to get pucks to the net. It's a great opportunity. Now I just need to start taking advantage of it and basically generate more goals back there." It seems Myers is going to stick with the Sabres and not be returned to his junior club, so there is still work ahead for him and Butler, whom are being counted on to make up for the absence of Jaroslav Spacek. Consider both players just Fantasy sleepers for deeper formats. (Updated 10/11/2009).
