Hodgson does well in return: The Province reports Canucks prospect Cody Hodgson, who was taken in the first round of the NHL draft in 2008, has made a promising comeback from a bulging disc in his lower back. Hodgson had two assists on Thursday for his OHL team, Brampton, in his first game since being assigned back to junior hockey in September. "It's been a long time," said Hodgson, who had't played since the Canucks' 5-4 preseason loss to the Oilers on Sept. 27. "There was a lot of hard work to get back. I had a good week of practice with no pain, so I thought it was time to test my back. There was nothing more I could do for it off the ice. It felt pretty good." (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Hodgson is one of the Canucks' top prospects and was believed to have made the roster this season, but the back injury was too big of a problem to overcome. Hodgson might not be out of the woods, but this is a positive step as he looks to make his NHL debut in 2010-11. Hodgson remains a solid long-term Fantasy keeper since he has burgeoning offensive skills. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| The Canucks appear ready to trot out 2008 first-round pick Cody Hodgson in 2009-10. Hodgson returned to Brampton of the OHL in 2008-09 for his third year of high-level junior hockey. Once again, Hodgson showed the type of two-way play Canucks fanatics can't wait to see on the NHL level. Hodgson had a career-high 43 goals, 49 assists and 92 points in 53 games. He was also very instrumental in helping Team Canada to gold at the World Junior Championships. Hodgson received a late-season call-up to Manitoba of the AHL. He totaled two goals and six points in 11 playoff games and appears ready for the NHL. Hodgson should have a roster spot to lose in training camp. Despite not being a very flashy player, there is a lot of hype building around Hodgson since he possesses the talent to make plays. He is extremely smart on both ends of the ice and has excellent on-ice vision. He projects as a future quarterback on the power play, but Hodgson might have to begin his career as a lower-line forward. Hodgson remains a great long-term keeper and possible rookie Fantasy sleeper Draft Day. (Updated 8/20/09) |
