| Fantasy Analysis |
Leino has been a massive disappointment since coming to the NHL and the Red Wings apparently decided they had seen enough of the 26-year-old. He might still be worth owning in deeper long-term keeper leagues just in case he catches on in Philly, but most seasonal owners should continue to ignore him. Tollefsen has been injured more often than not over the last two seasons and has just two points in 18 games this campaign. He has little Fantasy value, if any. (Updated 02/06/2010).

Wings deal Leino to Flyers for Tollefsen, '11 draft pick
The Detroit Red Wings traded forward Ville Leino to Philadelphia on Saturday for defenseman Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and the Flyers' fifth round pick in the 2011 draft.
|
| When Detroit lost out on the Fabian Brunnstrom sweepstakes in the summer of 2008, they turned their attention to the second most-coveted overseas import in Finland's Ville Leino. The MVP of the Finnish Elite League in 2007-08 (77 points in 55 games), Leino could have gone anywhere. He chose Detroit even though the Red Wings already had a stable of elite forwards. But with his track record it seemed almost a shoe-in Leino would make the Detroit roster. Not so fast. Leino spent most of the 2008-09 season in the AHL with Grand Rapids. Detroit felt it was better for his development that he acclimate to North American hockey in the minors, and once again the Red Wings were right. Leino had 15 goals and 46 points in 57 games with the Griffins, and when he came to the NHL he was well prepared. Leino totaled five goals and nine points in 13 games with Detroit. Leino might finally get his shot for full-time work in 2009-10, so consider him a top Fantasy sleeper. (Updated 8/17/09) |
