Fantasy Analysis
Jared Cowen failed to register a point, but it was still an eventful night for the blueliner. Cowen racked up 10 PIMs by getting in two separate fights with the Canes' Chad LaRose and Kevin Westgarth. Cowen was still able to record 16:45 TOI, despite the 10 minutes he spent in the box. 05/14/2013 22:20 Penguins rout Senators, take Game 1 of Eastern semifinals
Paul Martin and Chris Kunitz scored power-play goals and Pascal Dupuis added his sixth goal of the playoffs and the Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Ottawa Senators 4-1 in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals on Tuesday.
The rookie blueliner had a solid campaign in 2011-12, playing in all 82 regular season games. He was paired with with Sergei Gonchar on Ottawas second defensive unit for much of the season. As is typical for a young blueliner, Jared Cowen was up and down throughout the season in terms of his effectiveness. He skates quite well for a big man (he stands 6-foot-5) and has a hard, accurate slap shot. With the departure of Filip Kuba to free agency, look for Cowen to see time on the second power play unit this season. He possesses an underrated offensive skill set and should see a decent boost in production in 2012-13; he had five goals and 12 assists last year. Anywhere from five-to-eight goals and 15 assists is possible for Cowen. Hell be counted on to play big minutes on the penalty kill as well, likely paired with Marc Methot who was acquired from Columbus in the offseason for Nick Foligno. (Updated 8/14/12)
