Casey Wellman will go to the Rangers' AHL affiliate. The 24-year-old center has 13 points (4G, 9A) in 41 career NHL games. He put up seven points (2G, 5A) in the 14 games he appeared in with the Wild this season. Wellman's career path has been anything but conventional. The 23-year-old went undrafted and jumped directly from college (Umass-Amherst) to the NHL (Minnesota) in 2009-10. Then, last season, he split time between the Wild and AHL Houston, posting two points in 15 games with the big club, and 35 points (14 G , 21 A) in 42 minor league contests. He has decent upside handling the puck, but is merely a depth option getting a feel for the pro game. (Updated 10/4/11)
