Orlov (wrist) will be placed on long-term injured reserve, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.The NHL's rules for long-term injured reserve dictate that Orlov will be out for at least 10 games and 24 calendar days, which will prevent him from making his season debut until at least early November. Orlov was able to skate on his own Tuesday but remains stuck in the rehab process with his surgically-repaired wrist.

With the Capitals projecting a mid-October return for the defenseman, there's a chance he could open the season on the injured reserve list, which would require him to remain there for a minimum of seven days.
