Schneider gets a night off: Canucks D Mathieu Schneider was a healthy scratch Sunday against the Avalanche after the 40-year-old veteran played his first four games in six nights after missing the start of the season recovering from summer shoulder surgery.

We doubt Schneider will be a regular in the press box and was just given the night off Sunday for precautionary matters. He has one goal in his first four games with the Canucks. Once Schneider gets up to game speed, we expect him to be a reliable Fantasy option.

| Mathieu Schneider wanted nothing more than to play for a contender in 2009-10. His wish came true when he signed on with the Canucks in late August. It's not hard to understand why Schneider is a good fit for Vancouver. Schneider has done some of his best work in his career playing for elite teams and that has made him a high-end Fantasy option most years. The 2008-09 season was a perfect example of how Schneider benefits from playing for a winner. Schneider began the year in Atlanta after Anaheim dumped him because of salary reasons. Atlanta was excited to get Schneider in the fold since they wanted him to mentor rookie defenseman Zach Bogosian. Schneider wanted no part of a mentoring role. He also was plagued by injury during his time with Atlanta. Schneider had just four goals, 15 points and a minus-10 rating in 44 games with the Thrashers. He was eventually dealt to Montreal, where the 20-year veteran made a complete 180. He began his Montreal stint with five points (three goals) in five games and finished with 17 points (five goals) in 23 appearances. Unfortunately, Schneider's season ended on a sour note due to a shoulder injury. He had surgery in May and that's why teams were hesitant to sign the 40-year-old blueliner.
