Arnott laughs off losing hat trick: Fans started tossing caps onto the ice, celebrating what they thought was a hat trick by Nashville captain Jason Arnott. Patric Hornqvist actually had tipped in two of those goals, which Arnott knew. "I was laughing on the bench," Arnott said. "I knew he tipped it so nothing you can do. But it's good spirits to get our crowd into it. They haven't had much to cheer about of late at home. It's nice to see they're still behind us and still love it." Hornqvist finished with two power-play goals and an assist to help the Predators beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-3 on Thursday. Hornqvist understood the confusion because he said he knows it can be so hard to see if he tipped the puck or not. "I touched those two, and I'm happy for the team because we got a huge win," Hornqvist said. (Updated 02/05/2010).

Arnott finished with one goal, three assists and a plus-1 rating, so he can't be totally upset. He had been mired in a scoring funk the last few weeks, so just to get a nice game under his belt is a good consolation. Now, we just hope the top-line center can stay hot since he has the potential to be a high-end Fantasy forward. (Updated 02/05/2010).

| Even a few injuries couldn't keep Jason Arnott from continuing to be a scoring force for the Predators in 2008-09. The 15-year veteran set a Nashville record with 33 goals despite the fact he was limited to 65 games due to injury. Arnott really stepped up his game after Nashville lost Alexander Radulov to the KHL (Russia), but this has been nothing new for the wily veteran. He has managed no less than 27 goals in his first three seasons with the Predators and is the first player in team history to score 20 goals in three consecutive seasons. He hit the 20-goal mark for the 10th straight season and 12th time in his career. Arnott was exceptionally strong down the stretch for Nashville last season, as he totaled 33 points (18 goals) in his final 29 games. He also showed great resiliency as returned from a severe concussion that kept him out 11 games to total eight points (six goals) in the final four games. Arnott might have had 70-plus points in four straight seasons, if he didn't have to fight the injury bug in both 2006-07 and '08-09. He is still a gifted skater at 34 years old and remains a viable high-end Fantasy forward. (Updated 8/17/09) |
