Week 14 Fantasy Hockey Planner

| The Islanders added center Doug Weight to the roster last summer in hopes he would be a veteran mentor for some of the younger players. While Weight was just that, he also surprised many folks by being one of New York's best offensive players at the ripe age of 38. Weight totaled 30 points (seven goals) in his first 35 games. It was stunning to see him threaten as a point-per-game player and it started to draw the attention of potential contenders as the March trade deadline approached. But then the Detroit native quickly faced reality. Injuries limited Weight to just 18 games after Jan. 1 and prevented the Islanders from dealing him. Weight finished with 10 goals, 38 points and a minus-15 rating in 53 games. Still, the Islanders appreciated his effort and chose to re-sign him for a year. Weight recorded his 1,000th NHL point last season to become the eighth American-born player and 73rd NHL player to reach that plateau. He is also one of 45 all-time NHL players, and four American-born, to have recorded at least 200 goals and 700 assists in their careers. While Weight will again be a veteran presence for New York, he could be pushed out of the way by younger talents like John Tavares and Josh Bailey. Weight remains just a low-end Fantasy forward.
