Fantasy Analysis
His numbers fell off in 2011-12, but the terms of the contract were not immediately disclosed and it's possible that Saku Koivu may have signed for less than he made last season as a result. Koivu finished with 38 points over 74 games for the Ducks last season. (Updated 05/09/2012).
05/09/2012 17:02 Saku Koivu re-signs with Ducks
The Anaheim Ducks announced on Wednesday afternoon that they have signed veteran forward Saku Koivu to a one-year contract extension.
Koivu wrapped up his second season with the Ducks posting 45 points (15 G, 30A) in 75 games played. His fantasy value hinges on which line he plays on this season, as newcomer Andrew Cogliano is expected to challenge him for second-line duty. With Ryan Getzlaf firmly entrenched as the team's first-line center, Gogliano and Koivu will battle it out impacting each of their fantasy potential along the way. Even if he's able to remain on the second line, Koivu's injury history and declining skills could make last season's 45-point effort difficult to repeat. (Updated 10/4/11)
