Witt shocked by demotion
|(2/5/10) The Sports Xchange reports Brendan Witt hasn't played a minor-league game since reaching the NHL in 1996. But that is about to change. The Islanders assigned the 14-year veteran defenseman to AHL Bridgeport after he cleared waivers Thursday. Witt, who has five points and a minus-18 rating in 42 games this season, has one year remaining on his contract worth $3 million. He had been on the injured list with calf and knee injuries since Jan. 8. "I'm kind of shocked, but it is what it is," Witt said. "I think I could've played better, but it is what it is. Did it deserve this? I don't know, but it's just the way the business is and I'll try not to take it personal."|
