Brodeur isn't getting any younger, but the Devils limit the amount of shots he faces on a nightly basis and that's helping him continue to rack up the wins. The veteran remains a No. 1 Fantasy goalie. The Devils TG is also a No. 1 option. (Updated 11/28/2009).

| It's not like Martin Brodeur wasn't already ticketed for the Hockey Hall of Fame, but now there is no doubt it will happen after the 37-year-old netminder passed Patrick Roy for the most career wins in 2008-09. With a 3-2 victory against Chicago on March 17, Brodeur set a NHL record with 552 wins and finished the season at 557 victories. Of course, Brodeur would have achieved the record much earlier in the season had he not been sidelined by an elbow injury for several months. Brodeur missed 50 games with the injury suffered Nov. 1, 2008 against the Thrashers. He had missed all of 12 games due to injury or illness in the previous 14 seasons. But once Brodeur returned to the lineup in late February, he looked like his former self. Brodeur went 9-1-0 with a .940 save percentage, 1.75 goals-against-average and three shutouts in first ten games back. He finished the season with a 19-9-3 record, 2.41 GAA, .916 save percentage and five shutouts in 31 contests. The injury-plagued year cost Brodeur his shot at four straight 40-win seasons, but he still showed he is one of the NHL's best netminders when healthy. Heading into his 17th NHL season, we can likely expect to see more NHL records fall. Brodeur needs just three shutouts to pass Terry Sawchuk's record of 103, and also needs 31 games and 1,214 minutes to pass Roy's league marks of 1,029 games and 60,235 minutes. Brodeur reunites with former coach Jacques Lemaire in 2009-10. The duo won a Stanley Cup together in 1994-95. Brodeur is still one of the best, if not top, Fantasy goalies available. The Devils TG also has high-end Fantasy appeal. (Updated 8/18/09) |
