| For months during the 2008-09 season, Philadelphia had wanted to land a big-time defenseman to put on their blue line alongside Kimmo Timonen. They had their hearts set on Jay Bouwmeester, but couldn't swing a deal with the Panthers. Bouwmeester eventually signed with the Flames in the offseason, but Philadelphia was still bent on improving their blue line. Finally, they came through on draft night by acquiring Chris Pronger in a trade with the Ducks. The 15-year-veteran then quickly signed a six-year contract extension (he is heading into the final year of his current deal) and seems happy to be playing with the Flyers, his fifth NHL team. Pronger totaled 11 goals and 48 points last season with the Ducks while playing a full season for the first time in his illustrious career. He finished the regular season ranked third on the Ducks' all-time points list (150), fourth on the goals list (36) and third on the assists list (114) for defensemen. He ranked second in the NHL in total ice time (2,183:20) and average ice time (26:57). Even at 34-years-old, Pronger still showed he can skate with the best. He has 40-plus points in nine of his last 10 seasons and has managed at least 10 goals and 30 assists for five straight years. Continue to view Pronger as a must-own Fantasy option in all formats.
