Niedermayer picks up pair of assists: Ducks D Scott Niedermayer tallied a pair of assists and finished at plus-2 during Thursday's game against the Bruins. It was his first points in three games this season.

Niedermayer was a key piece of the Ducks' offseason plans. Once they found out the veteran was coming back for at least one more season, Anaheim was able to move forward. Niedermayer is one of the best offensive blueliners in the game and a must-start Fantasy option.

| The Ducks centered their offseason plans on whether or not defenseman Scott Niedermayer would return for a 19th season in 2009-10. After much deliberation, Niedermayer told the Ducks he was returning in late June and that prompted Anaheim to trade fellow defenseman Chris Pronger to the Flyers. It was the second straight year Niedermayer made an early decision to postpone full-time retirement after coming out of semi-retirement during the 2007-08 season. He showed in 2008-09 that he can still skate with the best of them and wants one more shot at winning the Stanley Cup after Anaheim fell short in the Western Conference semifinals last season. Niedermayer played in all 82 games last season for just the second time in his illustrious career. He got off to kind of a sluggish start but finished strong with 40 points in his last 44 games after Jan. 1. Niedermayer had a season-high 17 points (16 assists) in January. For the season he ranked third among NHL defensemen in scoring (59 points) and assists (45). Niedermayer has 50 or more points in four of his last five seasons and injury might be the only thing that keeps him from that plateau again in '09-10. Niedermayer still has high-end Fantasy appeal.
