Roloson loses a third straight start: Islanders G Dwayne Roloson made 26 saves during a 5-2 loss to the Lightning on Thursday. | Fantasy Analysis |
Roloson has been mired in a bit of a funk since Rick DiPietro joined the rotation. Also, the Islanders haven't put up a good front offensively, so the support hasn't been there. New York isn't going to give up on Roloson unless he really hurts them in net because they don't want to push DiPietro just yet. Roloson remains a No. 3 Fantasy goalie and flier in leagues that use average points per game. The Islanders TG is a No. 2 option. (Updated 02/04/2010).

| The Oilers put goalie Dwayne Roloson in a tough situation at the start of the 2008-09 season. They told him he would begin the season as a backup to Mathieu Garon, but he had to hold off rookie Jeff Drouin-Deslaurie as well. For as long as Roloson has been in the NHL, he was getting a raw deal. But he kept plugging away and his dedication eventually paid off. As Garon struggled out of the gate, Roloson was once again promoted to starter. He would eventually end up starting a team-high 63 times in net, including an Oilers' record 36 consecutive starts from Jan. 18-April 7. Roloson became the oldest goalie in NHL history (39 years old) to appear in 60-plus games. Roloson did a nice job keeping Edmonton in the playoff hunt while posting a 28-24-9 record with a 2.77 GAA, .915 save percentage and one shutout. So how did Edmonton repay Roloson? By offering him a take-it-or-leave-it one-year deal. Roloson scoffed at the notion and packed his bags for New York. The Islanders signed Roloson for two years as a backup to oft-injured Rick DiPietro. Unfortunately, the situation got murky when Martin Biron signed a one-year deal in late July. If New York doesn't make a move, they will have three starting goalies on the roster. DiPietro is expected to see the bulk of starts as long as he is healthy and that spells bad news for Roloson, who is merely a low-end Fantasy flier. (Updated 8/18/09) |
