Jovanovski notches 10th goal: Coyotes D Ed Jovanovski scored a goal and finished at plus-2 on Monday against the Oilers. The Coyotes' first goal came when Jovanovski took a pass from Robert Lang and slammed a one-timer past beleaguered goalie Jeff Deslauriers from the back of the left circle for his 10th goal of the season. It was his second score in eight games.

Jovanovski hasn't been as good of an offensive threat since posting 10 points in 13 October games. He did deal with some injury issues in November and that could be a reason he has slowed down. Then again, he could just be one of those blueliners that gets his points in waves and not on a consistent basis. He is still a decent Fantasy start because not many blueliners are double-digit goal scorers.

| After recording a career-best 39 assists and 51 points in 2007-08, many Fantasy owners expected big things from Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski in 2008-09. What they received was grave disappointment. Jovanovski got off to a rocky start with no points in his first nine games and just seven through the first 23 outings. Jovo also had a minus-12 rating in that span. The 6-3, 210-pounder seemed to right the ship in December with a season-high 11 assists and 12 points. Fantasy owners were once again getting excited about Jovo's outlook. Unfortunately, the Coyotes' season continued a downward spiral as did Jovanovski's. He would not total more than six points in a month the rest of the season. He finished with just nine goals and 36 points in 82 games. He also tied Kyle Turris for a team-worst minus-15 rating. Jovanovski tried his best defensively, as he tied for second on the team with 132 hits and finished third with 112 blocked shots. But it just wasn't enough. Jovanovski looks to get back on track in 2009-10, but he has just one year with 40 or more points in his last five seasons, so the odds look against him. Jovanovski is still a decent No. 3 or No. 4 Fantasy defenseman with potential to be much more. (Updated 8/17/09) |
