Weekes to man broadcast booth

(9/18/09) CBC reports that G Kevin Weekes, an unrestricted free agent, has signed a one-year contract with Hockey Night in Canada.

Weekes could have returned in '08-09

(6/19/09) The Sports Xchange reports Devils G Kevin Weekes was lost to an MCL knee injury April 3 and never returned. But he said he was making progress and could have returned. He should be ready for training camp.

Weekes to miss 2-3 weeks

(4/5/09) Devils backup goalie Kevin Weekes will miss between two and three weeks with what the team called a lower-body injury on Saturday. Speaking prior to the Devils' game at Buffalo on Saturday, team president Lou Lamoriello said Weekes' injury is not expected to be serious, though the team is still awaiting test results. Weekes was hurt early in the second period of New Jersey's 5-4 overtime win against Tampa Bay on Friday, when Evgeny Artyukin's shot struck the goalie's left leg, just above the pad.

Weekes hurts leg Friday

(4/4/09) A wild victory that included a rare relief appearance by Martin Brodeur relieved the mounting pressure on the New Jersey Devils. Brodeur made seven saves, and Zach Parise scored in overtime as the Devils snapped a six-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday. Brodeur was scheduled to have a quiet night after being honored in a pregame ceremony for setting the NHL record for regular-season wins. That changed when backup Kevin Weekes injured a leg in the opening minute of the second period. Brodeur unexpectedly played a role in sending the Lightning to their fifth straight loss. "We played good enough," Brodeur said. "We can't go out and play like that every night and think we're going to win a lot of games. We pulled it off." So did Brodeur, in an unexpected role. Evgeny Artyukin, who gave the Lightning the lead on the first shot 1:38 into the game, fired a puck from the left wing that appeared to hit Weekes on the left leg above the goal pad. Weekes made the stop but pitched forward, facedown on the ice. He was eventually helped off, unable to put weight on the leg. Brodeur finished up by stopping seven of the 10 shots he faced. Weekes stopped 11 of 12 shots.

Weekes gives Brodeur rare break

(3/18/09) Devils G Kevin Weekes made the start for New Jersey the day after Martin Brodeur set the record for most-ever wins by a goaltender. Weekes allowed four goals and made 28 saves in a loss to the Hurricanes. It was Weekes' second start in the month of March and first loss since Dec. 13.
