Alfredsson scores twice in a minute: Daniel Alfredsson scored twice in the final minute -- including an empty-netter -- to extend the Ottawa Senators' franchise-best winning streak to 10 with a 4-2 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Defenseman Erik Karlsson set up Alfredsson for the decisive goal with a minute remaining. Karlsson wound up at the right point as if he was going to shoot, but instead fed a perfect pass through the slot to Alfredsson, alone at the left post. The Senators captain sealed the victory by bouncing a shot into an open net with less than 23 seconds left. (Updated 02/03/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Alfredsson has produced seven goals, 13 points and a plus-8 rating in his nine games since returning from a shoulder injury. It has been some of his best hockey of the season. Clearly, Alfredsson is having no issues with the injury and remains a must-start Fantasy option. (Updated 02/03/2010).

| Forward Daniel Alfredsson showed the younger Ottawa players in 2008-09 the type of toughness it takes to play in the NHL. The 36-year-old Swede labored through a knee injury, broken jaw and sore back to play more games (79) than he has since his rookie season (1995-96). He was also able to lead the Senators with 50 assists and 74 points. Who says this is a young man's game? Alfredsson did have a disappointing '08-09 season from a goals standpoint. He totaled just 24 after having his second 40-goal campaign in 2007-08. He also failed to hit 80 points for a fifth straight season. Alfredsson has managed 70-plus points the last eight seasons and has played 70-plus games for seven straight years, so he has still proved productive and durable. Like many Senators players, Alfredsson really responded to the coaching of Cory Clouston after he took over behind the bench for Craig Hartsburg. He had 32 points (12 goals) in his final 33 games. Getting to play a full season under Clouston in 2009-10 could bring Alfredsson back over the 80-point plateau. Even though Alfredsson is getting up there in age, he still posts serious numbers to remain a high-end Fantasy option. (Updated 8/19/09) |
