| The only career milestones veteran defenseman Ruslan Salei reached in 2008-09 was playing in his 800th NHL game and surpassing 1,000 career penalty minutes. It was pretty much another ho-hum season for the 34-year-old Belarusian. He finished second among Colorado defensemen with 21 points (four goals), but failed to record 30-plus points for a third straight season. He did lead all Colorado defensemen with 107 hits while finishing third with 143 blocked shots. He did miss the final eight games of the season due to a knee injury, but didn't need surgery and should be raring to go to begin the 2009-10 season. Salei is entering a walk year, but his forte has primarily been defense. He has low-end Fantasy appeal in standard formats and can also be a viable flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats. (Updated 8/17/09) |
