Phillips is a clutch scorer: Peter Regin picked up his third power-play point of the game with an assist on Chris Phillips' goal midway through the third and the Senators extended their streak to five wins in a row with a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Regin, who opened the scoring in the first, got his second assist of the game as Phillips put a wrist shot from the slot past Chris Mason 10:29 into the third for Ottawa's third power-play goal of the game.

| Fantasy Analysis |
Phillips' goal, his sixth of the season, was his second game-winner in four games. Of his 58 career goals, 13 have been game-winners. Phillips has a knack for clutch scores. It's just too bad he doesn't score on a more frequent basis. He will contribute offensively at times, but Phillips is on the ice for his defense. Think of him as a low-end Fantasy option and potential flier in leagues that reward heavily for short-handed stats.

| Phillips is a solid defenseman for the Sens, but he’s a lot more valuable to them than he is to Fantasy owners. While he is durable, Phillips has only averaged 18 points a season and doesn’t see the penalty box on a too-frequent basis. He is solid in the plus/minus category, however, so consider him in deeper formats that reward that category. (Updated 8/18/09) |
