Fantasy Analysis
He reached double-digit goals this season, while 10 of his 11 tallies came with the man advantage. At this stage of his career, Tomas Holmstrom is a role player, and retirement seems like the most probable outcome this summer as he's taken a pounding while camping out in front of opposing netminders over the years. Patrick Kane scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday in the final game of the regular season for both teams.
03/26/2012 22:24 Wings earn playoff spot with win
Tomas Holmstrom scored two goals and the Detroit Red Wings earned a postseason berth for a team-record 21st consecutive year with a 7-2 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday night.
The 2011-12 campaign will likely be Holmstrom's swan song, but he managed to stay healthy enough to play in 73 games for the Wings last season. Setting up the old Coleman in front of opposing netminders has been very good to Homer, but his even-strength opportunities are beginning to fade as he's now 38 and the years of sticks to the back from opposing netminders and blueliners continue to take their toll. More than half of his points -- including 10 of his 18 goals -- came in power-play situations last season. If his run with the top unit is coming to an end, be prepared for the possibility of a rapidly falling point total. (Updated 10/4/11)
