Fantasy Analysis
Father Time seems to have overlooked Ray Whitney this season. The veteran winger will turn 40 in May, but is scoring like a much younger man (16-35-51 in 56 games). Give some thought to dangling him in trade to see what materializes, especially if it looks like you're rebuilding this year. (Updated 02/12/2012).
02/06/2012 22:44 Smith stops 30 shots for Coyotes in win
Mike Smith stopped 30 shots, Martin Hanzal scored twice and the Phoenix Coyotes ended a seven-game losing streak to Detroit with a 3-1 win over the Red Wings on Monday night.
01/31/2012 23:41 Ducks' Cogliano nets natural hat trick
Andrew Cogliano scored three straight goals in the second period and the Anaheim Ducks opened the second half of the season with a 4-1 win over the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday.
Whitney continued to show that he's still got it even at 39 years old. With 57 points (17 G, 40 A) in 75 games, Whitney proved to be a solid offensive option. The veteran continued to make his presence most noticeable on the power play, where he set up 23 scores. While injuries certainly become a concern at this stage of the game for a vet like Whitney, he's proven to be remarkably durable throughout his career and if that trend continues, he should be another solid, though perhaps unspectacular, source of points in 2011-12.
