Fantasy Analysis
Ray Whitney's injury explains his limited production in the postseason. The only time the team's prime line of Whitney-Radim Vrbata-Martin Hanzal ever got going was in Game 5 against the Kings. An unrestricted free agent this offseason, Whitney's return to the desert is, at this point, a question mark. (Updated 05/25/2012).
05/20/2012 17:55 Doan scores a pair of goals as Coyotes shut out the Kings, avoid being swept
Shane Doan scored two goals, Mike Smith made 36 saves in his third playoff shutout, and the Phoenix Coyotes emphatically avoided playoff elimination with a 2-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings in Game 4 of the Western Conference finals on Sunday.
Whitney continued to show that he's still got it even at 39 years old. With 57 points (17 G, 40 A) in 75 games, Whitney proved to be a solid offensive option. The veteran continued to make his presence most noticeable on the power play, where he set up 23 scores. While injuries certainly become a concern at this stage of the game for a vet like Whitney, he's proven to be remarkably durable throughout his career and if that trend continues, he should be another solid, though perhaps unspectacular, source of points in 2011-12.
