Chara has been playing with a broken pinkie for more than two months now, and his goal scoring has suffered as a result. Of course, the fact most of his teammates can't score either at the moment hasn't helped his overall numbers, either. Still, Chara remains a solid starting Fantasy defenseman in all formats.

Rask, Bruins blank Canadiens to end 10-game skid
Tuukka Rask made 36 saves for his third shutout, Marco Sturm scored twice and the Boston Bruins ended a 10-game losing streak with a 3-0 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday.

Demitra sparks Canucks' rally past fast-sliding Bruins
Pavel Demitra tied the game on a tip-in with 4:42 left and scored the only goal of the shootout to lift the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-2 win Saturday that sent the reeling Boston Bruins to their 10th straight loss.

| Chara put up a second straight 50-point season in 2008-09, and continued to show he’s improved in the durability department, as he missed just a pair of games for the second time in the last three campaigns. His 50 points were good enough for 12th among NHL defensemen, while his plus-23 rating tied for seventh. He also managed to find the penalty box on a regular basis, as his 95 PIM ranked him second among the top 14 scoring blue-liners. Chara and partner Dennis Wideman are one of the top offensive defensive pairings in the league, so there’s no reason to think both can’t reach the 50-point mark again in 2009-10. Draft Chara as a low-end No. 1 Fantasy defenseman, somewhere around the fourth round. (Updated 8/18/09) |
