Fantasy Analysis
This is certainly not the way Giggy wanted to close out the schedule after being in net for 15 of the Avs' 41 wins this season. Semyon Varlamov will open next season as the Avs' No. 1 netminder, but Jean-Sebastien Giguere will be waiting in the wings in case he falters. (Updated 04/08/2012).
03/15/2012 21:57 Devils beat Avalanche in 1-0 shootout
Ilya Kovalchuk and Zach Parise scored in the shootout to give the New Jersey Devils a 1-0 win over the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday.
03/13/2012 00:48 Landeskog's OT goal lifts Avs past Ducks
Gabriel Landeskog scored at 1:52 of overtime, Semyon Varlamov stopped 38 shots and the Colorado Avalanche beat the banged-up Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Monday night to remain in the thick of a tightly congested Western Conference playoff chase.
03/03/2012 23:45 Penguins win season-high five straight
Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 35 shots, Steve Sullivan had a goal and an assist and the streaking Pittsburgh Penguins beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-1 on Saturday night.
Giguere, who signed a two-year contract with the Avs in July, has been plagued by groin issues the past couple of seasons, so there's some risk here for the Avs and fantasy owners alike. Coming into training camp, Varlamov is widely viewed as having the inside track on the starting job in Colorado, however Giggy is not that far removed from being one of the league's elite netminders, either. If Varlamov falters, the Avs likely won't hesitate to give Giguere a shot at earning himself the top job. (Updated 10/4/11)
