Pavel Kubina, acquired by the Flyers at midseason from the Devils this past season, had been playing in his native Czech Republic prior to the work stoppage. Though he had several offers from interested NHL suitors, he decided it was best for him to remain in Europe rather than play a condensed schedule in North America. The Philadelphia defensemans play has been declining over the last three seasons, but Pavel Kubina still offers some depth and a veteran presence to the Flyers.
