Pavel Kubina, acquired by the Flyers at midseason from the Devils this past season, had been playing in his native Czech Republic prior to the work stoppage. Though he had several offers from interested NHL suitors, he decided it was best for him to remain in Europe rather than play a condensed schedule in North America. Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves to record his second shutout in three games and the Philadelphia Flyers beat the Florida Panthers 5-0 on Thursday for their fourth straight win.
The Philadelphia defensemans play has been declining over the last three seasons, but Pavel Kubina still offers some depth and a veteran presence to the Flyers.
