Luongo targeting Tuesday return: The Vancouver Sun reports Canucks goalie Roberto Luongo, who missed a sixth straight game on Friday against the Stars due to a broken rib, is targeting a Tuesday return to the lineup as Vancouver play St. Louis. The Canucks are calling the St. Louis game a "soft target" for their All-Star goalie's return. "I feel pretty good, but I haven't taken any (high) shots yet," Luongo said after his Thursday workout. "It's getting better every day." (Updated 11/07/2009).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Luongo has been taking mostly lower-body shots in preparing for his return. While it will take six weeks for the rib injury to totally heal, doctors said Luongo can play after two weeks as long as the pain is manageable. His chest protector has been modified to pad his left side and protect the injury. Luongo is warrior and wants to be back on the ice. It does appear as though he could play in Week 6 (Nov. 9-15), but there is still some risk with starting the high-end Fantasy goalie. (Updated 11/07/2009).

| Roberto Luongo's 2008-09 season might best be remembered for the weeks he spent on injured reserve from late November to mid-January because of a groin injury, and it's a real shame because Luongo had a pretty special season when he was active. Luongo won 22 of his final 30 appearances and finished with his fourth straight 30-win campaign. He was 33-13-7 with a 2.34 GAA, .920 save percentage and career-high nine shutouts in 54 games. He had the NHL's fifth best save percentage and goals-against-average. He also was second behind rookie Steve Mason in shutouts and was ninth with 33 wins. However, once again Luongo had a so-so postseason and missed out on the Stanley Cup. Luongo has been great since landing in Vancouver in 2006-07. He has 115 wins, 20 shutouts and hasn't lost 30 games in a season. Luongo has 40-win potential and practically starts every night in net, so he remains a No.1 Fantasy goalie. The Canucks TG is also a high-end Fantasy option. Don't worry about Luongo inking a 12-year extension. He is still highly motivated to win a Stanley Cup. (Updated 9/2/09) |
