Mason surrenders five goals, pulled: Blues G Chris Mason last a little more than one period during a 5-2 loss against the Avalanche on Monday. Mason blew a pair of one-goal leads in the first period and was gone after Colorado scored three times in the first 6:34 of the second. Ty Conklin stopped the bleeding by making 18 saves, but St. Louis couldn't rally. Four of the goals were at even strength. (Updated 02/09/2010).

| Fantasy Analysis |
Mason has just won twice in his last nine appearances. It hasn't been all his fault, but the recent run of losses has allowed Conklin to get in net more. Mason has dropped to being a low-end No. 2 Fantasy netminder. The Blues TG is also a No. 2 option. (Updated 02/09/2010).

| There is no denying that goalie Chris Mason was the Blues' savior in 2008-09. Left for dead in the middle of the season and with playoffs hopes fading fast, St. Louis made the bold move of demoting Manny Legace to the minors and naming Mason their starting goalie. Coach Andy Murray and the front office arguably made one of the greatest decisions in team history. Mason, who was picked up in an offseason trade from Nashville, went on a ridiculous hot streak and St. Louis snuck into the playoffs as the seventh seed in the Western Conference. Mason started the last 33 games of the season for St. Louis and went 24-8-6 with five shutouts, a .924 save percentage and 2.08 goals-against average in his final 38 games. Mason set a career-high with 27 wins and six shutouts. He finished the season with a 2.41 GAA and .916 save percentage and looked as efficient in net as when he supplanted Tomas Vokoun as Nashville's starting goalie in 2006-07. St. Louis is ready to roll into the 2009-10 season with Mason as their top goalie, but they brought in Ty Conklin as some added insurance. Mason will be a high-end No. 2 Fantasy goalie Draft Day with potential to be a No. 1 option if he gets off to a hot start. The Blues TG is also more of a No. 2 Fantasy option Draft Day.
