Patrick Sharp had a goal and an assist, and Patrick Kane broke a tie late in the second period in the Chicago Blackhawks' 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings 2-1 on Sunday.
Mayers' job as an enforcer will open up some opportunities for the likes of Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews with his muscle that was lacking on the Blackhawks in 2010-11. This season will be the 14th for Mayers in the NHL. In 2010-11 he registered 124 penalty minutes along with 105 hits. Mayers should be in the mix for minutes on the ice. (Updated 10/4/11)
