Gomez scratched on Tuesday: Montreal C Scott Gomez (lower body) was scratched from Tuesday's game against the Blue Jackets. Gomez left in the third period of Friday's game in Washington with an undisclosed "lower-body injury" and was unable to play Saturday night against Detroit. He could be out for a while but for now is considered day to day. (Updated 11/24/2009).

Lower body - IR. Out until at least late November (Updated - 11/25/09)

| Fantasy Analysis |
The Canadiens were hoping that Gomez, the highest-paid player on the team with an $8 million price tag, was going to pick up his game after trading for him in the offseason. Before the injury, he had gone 13 games without a goal and five games without a point. This injury just mounts to the problems Gomez has had on the ice in November. His play has definitely tailed off and Gomez is looking like the same inconsistent center we saw in New York. He is really just a No. 4 Fantasy option, at best, at the moment, when healthy. | When the Rangers signed Scott Gomez to a seven-year deal in the summer of 2007 and ripped him away from tri-state rival New Jersey, they figured he was the missing piece to the puzzle and could be the player to get them to the Stanley Cup. That didn't happen in Gomez's first two seasons, and showing a bit of impatience, the Rangers turned on Gomez in the offseason. They found a suitor for his hefty salary and wished him well in a trade to Montreal. Gomez posted a respectable 70 points (54 assists) in his first season with New York, but dropped to an embarrassing 58 points (42 assists) in 2008-09. Gomez had 10 or more points in five months last season, but lacked the explosion we know he can bring to the table. He still was a force in the faceoff circle, winning 52.4 percent of his draws (687 for 1,312). Montreal welcomed Gomez with open arms as they had a major offseason overhaul. Gomez is now expected to anchor the Habs' top line alongside Michael Cammalleri and Brian Gionta. Gomez had great success in New Jersey playing alongside Gionta, which included him totaling a career-high 33 goals and 84 points in 2005-06. Gomez's Fantasy value dropped some because of his down season, but he is definitely a top bounce-back candidate. (Updated 8/19/09) |
